Heracleum maximum (Cow Parsnip)
A large and dramatic native perennial in the carrot family, Cow parsnip features large blooms composed of many large round-topped flower-clusters. The compound leaves are deeply lobed and can grow up to 10-15 in. across! Cow parsnip can grow 6-8 ft tall in one growing season, and then is entirely absent in winter!
Careful not to confuse this with the related but noxious and non-native giant hogweed! Cow parsnip grows in a variety of settings, including moist wetland edges, meadows, and disturbed sites, in part to full sun.
