Spice up your late-summer/fall landscape with this late-blooming (August-Nov/Dec) perennial in the iris family! Crimson flag is well suited to many parts of the landscape, where each plant will spread out vigorously.

This 'Torero' variety is an especially robust cultivar, with long flower spikes adorned with clusters of cup-shaped vibrant coral-red flowers rising up to 24 to 36 inches above the thick grass-like, semi-evergreen leaves.

This is also great in Zones 1 or 2 of rain gardens, as its native habitat is streams in South Africa. Nonetheless, it's also delightfully drought tolerant in humus-rich soils and fuss-free! Hardy to Zone 7 (about 0 degrees F), so not well suited to the coldest parts of our region in rocky soils.

Best in full sun/part sun, with well-draining but organic-matter-rich soils.

With its taller flower spikes, ‘Torero’ Crimson Flag is especially well suited to a cutting or cottage garden. Or it can provide late-season definition to a walkway or patio edge when planted in mass or clusters. or mass plant them along a walkway or patio to enjoy their late season blooms.
