During our salvages, volunteers save small native trees, shrubs, ferns, and herbaceous plants from local areas scheduled for clearing. At plant salvage events, you can obtain plants for your own projects and for community projects; learn more and practice plant identification skills; and meet fellow plant nerds!
A few important things to note:
We meet at the site starting at 9:30 a.m. and work until about midday. We then head to our West Olympia nursery to pot up the newly dug plants. We're at the nursery from about 1-3:30 p.m. (sometimes later). We welcome you to join us for either or both parts of the day (or just a little of both!).
Salvage location can change by event — pay attention to the address and map links sent to you after registration.
These are rain or shine or snow or sleet events: dress accordingly!
All events occur in two parts: first at the salvage site and second at our plant nursery. If you’d like to salvage plants for yourself as well, we ask that you volunteer some time at the afternoon nursery work party.
NPS will provide gloves, tools, and snacks.
Come when you can and stay as long as you’d like!
