Volunteer Opportunities
Have fun, learn, and lend a hand with this great community of people! We like to enjoy our time together, having fun and geeking out about plants, all while accomplishing a shared mission to:
save native flora and restore native ecosystems;
learn and educate others about the roles of native plants in protecting water and habitat, including green stormwater techniques;
and empower the public with native plant identification, propagation, and salvaging knowledge!
We aim to find fulfilling and educational activities for every volunteer, regardless of existing skills and abilities. Please complete our volunteer interest form, linked below, after you’ve read more about our opportunities. This allows us to serve your needs and build a fruitful partnership.
We also recognize that volunteers may ultimately find our activities not their cup of tea – and that’s OK! If you have specific feedback on how to make your volunteer experience better, we welcome your input.
Thank you!
Native Plant Salvages
Native plant salvage events bring the community into forested spaces that will be developed soon: Volunteers help salvage small native trees, shrubs, ferns, and herbaceous plants from local areas scheduled for clearing. Together we dig and save native plants to use in future Naturescaping, restoration, and green-stormwater projects!
At the NPSF Nursery (aka the Holding Beds) we propagate plants and store salvaged plants for use in future revegetation and green stormwater projects, as well as our biannual plant sales. To maintain healthy plants, we organize regular work parties at our nursery throughout the year.
Nursery Learning
Stream-side planting, McLane Creek Nature Trail maintenance, rain garden installation, collaborations with many other conservation organizations, and more!
Restoration Events
We couldn’t manage our plant sales without a cohort of volunteers to help us clean up the plants, organize the nursery, pull orders, manage traffic, load cars, and all sorts of miscellaneous duties. Join us for a busy and fun, camaraderie-building week in May or October!
Fall dates TBD
