Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Little Spire' (Little Spire Russian Sage) 1 qt.
This ‘Little Spire’ Russian sage selection is a “no-flop” size perfect for smaller spaces, as it is a bit more dwarf than most Russian sages, reaching only about 2ft x 2 ft high and wide — sometimes a bit more in the right soils. It still features the same gorgeous, spikes covered in soft lavender-blue flowers that bloom for many weeks from mid-summer to fall, supporting many butterflies and other pollinators late in the season.
The finely dissected grey-green foliage has a pleasing sage-like scent — thus its common name, “Russian sage.” Many parts of the plant’s structure persist through the cold months, adding interest to the winter landscape and providing habitat for important small garden creatures. Cut back the old growth in spring before the new growth emerges.
Perovskias are hardy and easy-care plants that are typically deer and rabbit resistant, drought tolerant, and accepting of most garden soils — even clay — as long as they have some drainage and plenty of sunshine during the growing season. Plant these with other sun-loving ornamental grasses and perennials such as Coreopsis, Caryopteris, Achillea, Solidago, Echinacea and many more!
