Evergreen, clumping (vs. running) Sesleria grasses are very useful for defining borders, edging a patio or walkway, or even planted in mass for a groundcover, where they make an especially lush statement. They’re also pretty enough to serve as an accent among mid-sized perennials!

With their evergreen foliage, this compact ornamental grass provides year-round interest. Arching clumps of chartreuse-colored blades form in early summer. By midsummer, silvery-white 4-inch long flower spikes arch above the blades. Fall brings a golden-yellow color, which turns gradually to tan or brown, providing winter cover and forage for small wildlife.

Considered a robust and highly adaptable plant, it is drought tolerant, grows 1 to 2 ft. tall and wide in full sun to part shade, and will not reseed. In late winter, freshen them up for spring by cutting back or using a gloved hand to remove the tattered foliage and make way for fresh growth.
