Trillium ovatum (Western Trillium)
A beautiful springtime PNW classic, the petals on this large native perennial flower start out bright white and turn to pink to lilac as they mature. Look for the flowers in April, as it is one of the first woodland flowers of the spring.
Western Trillium grows 4-18 in. tall and it prefers full to dappled shade and humus-rich woodland soil. Leaves are widely egg shaped with a pointed tip and 2-8 in. long.
Note: After flowering the leaves will begin to die back, so plant with late-season shade-loving perennials, ferns, and evergreens to keep the bloom cycle going.
